- Access to
information about methods and procedures used successfully in other
states by homeschoolers to retain their freedom to educate.
Why
reinvent the wheel? NHELD believes that where homeschoolers in one state
have succeeded in retaining their freedom to educate, that state should be
used as a model to be replicated in the other states. In order to do so,
NHELD has established a central clearinghouse of information where
homeschoolers can present the facts as to the methods and procedures they
used to successfully resolve legal and political problems in their home
state. NHELD subscribers can then access this information to gain insight
and strategy to win legal and political battles in other states.
- Notification by
email about proposed legislation that may affect the rights of
homeschoolers to educate in freedom.
NHELD
subscribers will be notified about any proposed legislation on the federal
level, and on the state level, where possible, that will affect their right
to educate in freedom.
NHELD
will notify subscribers as to the location where they can find and read for
themselves the text of the proposed legislation,
and will make suggestions as to what families might do to protect their
rights. NHELD does not believe in just directing families to act in unison
on the basis of an opinion that NHELD has formed on its own. NHELD believes
in empowering individuals to act in accordance with their conscience. NHELD
believes in: (1) informing individuals about where the entire proposed
legislation may be located; (2) advising individuals not to take the word
of anyone else about what that legislation says, but to read the text for
themselves in order to formulate their own opinion about the effect the
legislation will have, and (3) suggesting courses of action that
individuals may wish to take. NHELD does not believe in blindly following
the word of anyone. NHELD believes in an informed, empowered citizenry, who
is able to fight for freedom effectively when necessary.
- Participation in
future scholarship program and other programs designed to return
benefits to homeschoolers.
NHELD
believes that there should be some return on your investment into our
organization. That is why we plan to establish certain programs to give
back to the homeschoolers who share our belief in freedom to educate. Our
first goal is to establish a scholarship program, all of the details of
which have not yet been developed. As soon as it is fully developed, we
will announce it. Our goal is to tie in the amount of the available
scholarship to the growth of the organization. In other words, as our
subscriber list grows, so, too, does the scholarship funding. For right
now, however, we need to form a strong basis in order for funding of any
scholarship program to become a reality. We also welcome other ideas for
programs that you would like to see in place.
- Knowledge that
you are assisting to form a joint venture designed to promote and
protect individual freedom for yourself, your children, your
grandchildren, and all who come thereafter.
If we don’t stand up now, together, to protect our freedom to
educate, we will lose it not only for ourselves but for future generations.
That would be not only unthinkable, but unforgivable.
NHELD may not be a
perfect organization, but together we can succeed.
WITH REGARD TO LEGAL
MATTERS
We can’t
give legal advice to you since we aren’t licensed to practice law in your state
but we can help you navigate through legal issues in the following ways:
·
Provide a plan of action for your family to follow in the
event of a problem encountered with government officials in instructing
your children.
·
Provide a letter from NHELD, LLC, to the government
officials involved, on your behalf.
- Provide a
referral (if available) to Legal Assistance by an attorney licensed to
practice in your state working jointly with NHELD licensed attorneys.
NHELD
believes that most legal problems encountered by families who homeschool
may be resolved without resorting to litigation or the adoption of new
state or federal laws. NHELD believes that attorneys living, working, and
practicing law in your state are most informed about the nuances regarding
your state’s homeschooling laws. However, NHELD also believes that these
attorneys will be better able to protect your freedom to educate by
networking with other attorneys and homeschool associations throughout the
country in order to foster exchange of ideas, information, and strategy.
That is why NHELD is establishing a network of attorneys and homeschool
associations nationwide. Our network will be able to provide valuable
assistance in cooperatively developing strategies and in negotiating
solutions to your legal problems. You and your state’s attorneys will have
access to and the benefit of legal advice from our nationwide network of
attorneys whenever needed.
The consulting
fee for the personal appearance of Attorney Deborah
Stevenson for workshops or speaking engagements may be negotiated on a
case-by-case basis.
